Timber-framed Additions

A series of additions in the Berkshires for a retirement home. We incorporated aging-in-place design throughout, including low threshold doors and curbless showers. The home features beautiful woodworking including cherry timber trusses, yellow birch flooring, and custom cherry cabinets. The home shows many green building techniques including superinsulation with a SIP roof and double stud walls, and heated with radiant heating.

Timber-framed Additions

This custom house features cherry, beech, and yellow birch timbers and woodworking—all milled from ice-damaged trees on site. The house features many fine finishes, including: native cherry timber trusses, stained radiant–heated concrete floors, custom cherry cabinets and built-ins, yellow birch flooring, and an outdoor screenroom with native cherry flooring and trim. The house is very comfortable and affordable to heat, with a SIP roof and double stud walls. For this retirement home, Uncarved Block incorporated aging in place design principles to ensure the client’s home is fully accessible as they get older.
