The Native House

A unique home, in that every single piece of wood in the house never left the property.  The client--a carpenter and arborist--logged, milled, and air-dried all of the timbers, flooring, studs, and finish woodworking right on the site.  The timber frame exhibits a simple form that showcases 16 different species, reflecting the diversity of the surrounding forest.  This house shows how Uncarved Block designs and builds in collaboration with the material at hand.  Waney ash and cherry timbers float above the kitchen, a cantilevered bedroom balcony is supported by black locust braces, and a sweeping cherry porch plate puts a gentle curve in the roofline at the entry.  Design by Uncarved Block.
