House in the Woods

The client, a retired park ranger, wanted a more cabin-y feel, so her walls are paneled with hemlock boards cut from her property.  Everything from the 18’ long wide pine flooring to the cherry cabinets was milled from her property.  The kitchen cabinets feature inset doors with curly maple panels, and gorgeous spalted sugar maple countertops (the marble counter was salvaged from the original Bascom Lodge, where she worked for many years).  The frame is enclosed with SIP panels on the roof and walls, resulting in an incredibly tight envelope (0.49 ACH50), better than the very stringent Passive House standards  Timber frame design and construction by Dave Carlon, architectural design by Uncarved Block.
